Group Tuition

“Margot enjoys her lessons. The fact that her teacher is very friendly and encouraging
is an important part of this.” – Music House Parent, 2009

Keyboard – max 5 per class – 5-11 years
Skilled teachers work from a classical framework whilst embracing a strong group-learning ethos through singing, listening, performing and appraisal. Our lessons includes understanding notation, regular finger exercises using imaginative musical games to support engagement, call and response with the piano and voice and sight-reading. Pupils enjoy regular concerts and assessments to encourage parental support.

Percussion – max 7 per class – 5-11 years
Djembes, full drum kit, Cajun drums, agogos, glockenspiels and caxixis are just a few instruments used by pupils to give them an idea of the full range of percussive sounds and skills. Rhythm, motor (physical) co-ordination, listening, vocal response and performances are all part of a pupil's weekly progress. Lessons are taught by our high energy and enthusiastic percussion tutors – performers in their own right.

Guitar – max 5 per class – 6-11 years
Each child is encouraged from the start to hold their instrument correctly, enjoy the different textures of sounds produced by a guitar using plucking and strumming actions. Reading music is part of regular training. Beginners are taught initially by ear to fine-tune listening skills before rapidly progressing to solo and group playing of popular pieces and simple classical melodies. Advanced students play in concerts and can take ABRSM exams if they wish.

Violin – max 5 per class – 5-11 years
Beginners enjoy learning a formal instrument through musical games encouraging formal techniques such as plucking, bowing, single notation and the correct posture. Every lesson focuses on new challenges with an emphasis on aural development involving repetition, accompanying and composition.

Ukulele – max 5 per class – 5-11 years
A great instrument for beginners, the ukulele is great fun and very portable. Students will learn chords and notes for familiar nursery rhymes and popular songs. Our great ukulele teacher will enourage them to read music, forming an excellent foundation for musical learning in later life.

Group classes start at £13. More info/registration form [PDF].
