Emma Hutchinson, founder of The Music House for Children, established private tuition in all instruments to homes across London before extending facilities to Bush Hall in Shepherds Bush to provide subsidised musical opportunities for children.
As a not-for-profit The Music House works with national organisations such as Sound Connections, Vocal Force, Sing Up, Music Services, children’s centres, The Pre-school Learning Alliance, childminder associations and others to encourage integration of music within daily activities.
The Music House encourages independent music making through training to early years practitioners, music teachers, musicians and families. With the help of charitable funding from charities such as Youth Music, John Lyon’s Charity, Peabody Trust and The Big Lottery we regularly provide training events and music projects at our school, in nurseries, primary schools and children’s centres.
The Music House is a member of:
National Association of Music Educators (NAME)
Music Educators & Researchers for Young Children (MERYCuk)
Rhythm of London
Play Association, Hammersmith & Fulham Borough, London
Music Manifesto
Emma acts as an advisory for early years music provision and advocates partnership as the most sustainable and cost-effective means to nurture quality music making in the UK.
The Music House for Children employs three full time staff and over 80 freelance music teachers, workshop leaders and early years specialists. We operate in over 40 schools and nursery schools across London, as well as run ongoing projects in a number of children’s centres, church halls and community sites.
